The last decade has seen an exponential rise in research utilising grounded theory approaches, frameworks and methodology, in a widening array of disciplines.Ìý This one-day symposium aims to provide the opportunity to showcase some of this research, enable debate on the continual evolvement of grounded theory as a methodology, and provide the opportunity to meet other researchers.
- To bring together those undertaking grounded theory research in the interest of greater collaboration and evolution of the theory.
- Promote the growth of the grounded theory network.
Hosted by °ÄÃÅ6ºÏ¿ª²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼ on behalf of the Scottish Grounded Theory Network on the 14th of June 2024, people will present research, host round table discussions, and have the opportunity to discuss the future of grounded theory research.
- 10-10:30 – Meet/greet, tea/coffee
- 10.30 – Welcome by Dr. Suzie Dick, Scottish Grounded Theory Network
- 11am – Paper presentations
- 12.30 – 1.15pm – lunch
- 1.15 – Lightening talks
- 2pm – Round tables
- 2.45pm – Tea/coffee
- 3pm – Future of grounded theory research – group discussions
- 3.45pm – Closing remarks

You need to send you submission by email to SDick@qmu.ac.uk.ÌýÌý Please ensure you include under which section you are submitting (Paper presentation, round table, lightening talk) and you may make submissions to more than one section and are not limited on number, each will be viewed on its own merits, and in the interest of a broad and balanced symposium.ÌýÌý You should also include:
- Name of person submitting,
- Job title,
- Title of submission
- Abstract or round table proposal of no more than 250 words.
Please note:ÌýIf your submission is accepted for the conference, it is expected that you will purchase a conference ticket and present in person.

Paper presentation
Presentations will last for 30 minutes (20 minutes presentation plus 10 minutes Q and A). Each paper should be clearly aligned to the symposium theme of grounded theory and identify if it is a think/opinion piece, report on original research or an update on a work in progress. The contribution should provide an insight into your work and stimulate reader engagement and debate.

Round table
Want to share ‘work in progress’ but not yet ready to present a formal paper? Lead a small ‘round table’ conversation without PowerPoint. Round table conversations will last for 30 minutes including Q and A.

Lightening talk
A lightning talk at our conference is a 5-minute presentation with presenters being encouraged to use only 3-5 slides. However, we encourage presenters to be creative with their content as well as succinct in their delivery. The talks could introduce a new project, topic or idea, or present some current research if you don’t feel ready to talk for a longer period of time.

For delegates wishing to be a convenient 2 minute walk from the conference venue we would recommend you stay on site at °ÄÃÅ6ºÏ¿ª²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼ where campus accommodation is available.
We have single, en-suite rooms (with shared kitchen and living space) available at £68 B&B per person per night.
